#1 Pikachu ex SIR 238/191
>SV 7 Surging Sparks Special Illustration Rare
Current Market Value: £300 - £450
|
Okay let's be honest, you didn't expect anything else besides a Pikachu at the top of the list. (We didn't, not for a Pikachu themed set anyway!) Absolutely dazzling is this Pika with those gorgeous rainbow borders introduced back in Stellar Crown! A combination of rarity, artwork and of course the Pikachu name which has sent the demand for this special illustration rare from Surging Sparks through the roof!
Scarlet and Violet has aged like a fine wine over its life span and I think that Surging Sparks has rounded out 2024 perfectly!
#2 Latias ex IR 239/191
>SV 7 Surging Sparks Illustration Rare
Current Market Value: £190 - £230
|
One of the most valuable Pokémon cards of the last 10 years features Latias and Latios. This card was the most expensive card of the Sun & Moon Series. This time around, no one is making the mistake of undervaluing the Eon Duo as this special illustration rare Latias ex soars high to 2nd on our list of Surging Sparks most expensive cards.
Surging Sparks of course had to break up the pair however collecting both cards creates a larger artwork piece depicting Latias & Latios flying high above a city. Fans of the Pokémon series will of course want to collect both halves, this Latias ex being the rarer of the two.
#3 Pikachu ex Gold Card 247/191
>SV 7 Surging Sparks Hyper Rare
Current Market Value: £70 - £130
|
If you thought that the iconic Pikachu featured on the box art and booster packs wouldn't at least make a second appearance then you would be wrong! The Scarlet & Violet series introduced us to hyper rare gold cards being the most difficult to pull from any set, so seeing a Pokémon as iconic as Pikachu featured as one, there was no denying this wouldn't be a valuable card!
Rarity aside, the Topaz Bolt ability is a ridiculously powerful attack dealing 300 points of damage for only 3 energy cost. This coupled with Resolute Heart preventing this Pikachu from being one shotted is a deadly combo!
#4 Milotic ex SIR 237/191
>SV 7 Surging Sparks Special Illustration Rare
Current Market Value: £75 - £120
|
Another stunning card enters our list at the number 4 spot! The Milotic ex from Surging Sparks is another card with connecting artworks - this time around its pre-evolution form Feebas illustration rare. The artworks here are absolutely gorgeous and in-person even better, I personally love the division between the shadowy waters and the bright rays of light which Milotic is bursting out into!
Not only is the artwork stunning, but Milotic ex again has some super powerful abilities like Sparkling Scales which lets it essentially block tera Pokémon. This could certainly give it a place in the TCG metagame right up there with other countering Pokémon like Iron Thorns ex from Temporal Forces.
#5 Hydreigon ex SIR 240/191
>SV 7 Surging Sparks Special Illustration Rare
Current Market Value: £70 - £115
|
For the 5th spot on our most valuable card from Surging Sparks list we have the Hydreigon ex special illustration rare. This cards stunning rainbow borders and contrast-rich artwork of Hydreigon is exceptional and the artist Akira Egawa has really created a beautiful card here! I think that where Surging Sparks really shines is in its super well rounded roster of Pokémon included within. Hydreigon may not be as iconic as Pikachu but the artworks all round especially the special illustration rares really do stand out!
#6 Lisia's Appeal SIR 246/191
>SV 7 Surging Sparks Special Illustration Rare
Current Market Value: £60 - £110
|
A top ten most valuable cards list of a Pokémon set wouldn't be complete without a Waifu taking one of the spots! Lisia's appeal ticks all the boxes featuring a female character with bright coloured hair, big eyes and Pokémon pairing coupled with this cards rarity creating its demand! (Or should I say desire?)
Waifu cards can hold great sentiment amongst players and collectors but Lisia especially having a wide appeal and great track record of top preforming valuable cards across other Pokémon sets.
#7 Alolan Exeggutor ex SIR 242/191
>SV 7 Surging Sparks Special Illustration Rare
Current Market Value: £40 - £100
|
I'm so happy that this set is full of fabulous rainbow bordered cards! Introduced with the release of Stellar Crown, yet another takes a place on our list! The Alolan Exeggutor from Surging Sparks is turning heads with its gorgeous artwork thats bursting with colours. Besides its curb appeal, Alolan Exeggutor ex has some super powerful attacks making it a keen choice for players of the TCG!
#8 Latios IR 203/191
>SV 7 Surging Sparks Illustration Rare
Current Market Value: £35 - £65
|
Here we have the other half of the Eon Duo, Latios! This card provides us with a stunning artwork which pairs up with its counter part, the Latias ex special illustration rare to create a larger artwork. Even though this is the less rare half of the pair, this card is exceptionally beautiful and will look great in any player or collectors binder!
#9 Jasmine's Gaze SIR 245/191
>SV 7 Surging Sparks Special Illustration Rare
Current Market Value: £30 - £90
|
The Jasmine's Gaze Special Illustration Rare is a deadly combination of beautiful artwork, featuring a Waifu and a heap of delicious food! This combo helped Carmine from Twilight Masquerade climb to the number 2 spot in its respective set but unfortunately for Jasmine, it hasn't quite had the same impact. If this were any other set of course, this card would hold incredible value at the top, but there are so many fantastic cards to compete with putting Jasmine at the number 9 spot on our list for the most valuable cards in Surging Sparks!
#10 Night Stretcher Gold Card 251/191
>SV 7 Surging Sparks Special Illustration Rare
Current Market Value: £35 - £20
|
And finally, to complete our list we have the Hyper Rare Night Stretcher gold card! This one is for the players, Night Stretcher was first introduced back with the Shrouded Fable expansion and crept it's way into a lot of players decks being very common amongst decks featuring Teraoagos, Snorlax, Regidrago and Gardevoir! These Pokémon benefit massively from the flexibility of this card in play allowing players to put either another Pokémon or Basic Energy from their discard pile into their hand.
The rarity and dazzling gold is simply a 'flex' on players with just the common version!
Final Thoughts!
Surging Sparks to this day is still making waves in the Pokémon community amongst players and collectors! The variety you find inside this expansion is second to none and releasing right before Christmas has really got fans clammoring to get their hands on a booster box or two! This set really has lived up to the hype and is possibly the best Pokémon expansion of the Scarlet and Violet era.
Simply slapping an iconic Pokémon on the front of the box doesn't necessarily always mean its going to be a fan favourite (we saw this with Obsidian Flames) but Surging Sparks hasn't fallen short with its offerings for collectors and players alike. Everything from playability with cards like Night Stretcher and Pokémon with powerful attacks makes this expansion relevant to the meta gameplay and coupled with some of the most beautiful Special Illustration Rare cards we have ever seen really gives Surging Sparks the edge over other Pokémon sets!
